Empty letter envelope. Plain letter envelope with cancelled Jeff Davis postage stamp.  A blue, ten-cent Jefferson Davis stamp is pasted in upper right corner. The stamp has February Richmond cancellation.

Envelope is thinly addressed in ink to “Dr. B.H. Hoyt / Wheaton’s Divission / Forstberg’s [Forsberg’s] Brigade / Early’s A.V.D”.  Barzilla H. Hoyt was a surgeon in the 45th Virginia Infantry late in the war. The 45th served mostly in Western Virginia and in the Valley towards the end of the war.

Envelope is in good, used condition…envelope only, no letter. [jet] [ph:L]
