Item consists of a 1945 aluminum canteen and cup with cloth cover bearing a last name and serial number.
Aluminum canteen has a black Bakelite screw top with chain. Back of the canteen is marked “U.S.” over “MASSILLION AL. CO” over “1945.” Canteen has several small dents but is otherwise nice.
Canteen cup has the folding handle and rolled lip. Bottom is marked “U.S.” over “E. A. CO” over “1945.” Cup has small areas of discoloration.
Both pieces come in a well-used OD green carrier with lift-a-dot fasteners at top and iron hooks on the reverse. Cover shows the usual dirt and staining from age. Stenciled “U.S.” has faded.
Visibly written on the cover is “JOHNSON” over “31135802.” This serial number corresponds to Harry Wilhelm K. Johnson who was born in Kongsberg, Norway on December 10, 1921.
According to Johnsons draft registration document filled out on February 16, 1942 he was living in Middlesex, Massachusetts and working for the Lawson Machine and Tool Co. He is described as weighing 160-lbs and stood 5’10” tall with blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. When he registered, he was living with his father Andrew C. Johnson in Woburn, Massachusetts.
Harry W. K. Johnson was drafted on June 23, 1942. He is listed as being single with 2 years of college to his credit. Nothing else could be found of him or his service. [ad] [ph:L]
