This is one of the truly historical treasures still in private hands. These solid silver spurs were especially made for, and inscribed to, Major General Frank Cheatham after his promotion for his outstanding leadership at the Battle of Belmont, Kentucky where he “Won his spurs.”  They were presented to Cheatham by his Commissary General J. F. Cummings. Both of the spurs are inscribed along the inner circumference, reading in full:  “Presented to Maj. Gen’l F. Cheatham by his friend J. F. Cumming.” Cheatham’s spurs have graced the coveted front cover of North South Trader’s Civil War magazine, a copy of which accompanies the spurs. They also come with an impeccable Cheatham family provenance.
