The box is held closed by two brass hooks attached to the lid that hook on to two brass screws on the body.

Opening the box reveals 37 holes drilled into the wood base. All but one holds a numbered or lettered die stamp. All letters except “I” are present. There is an extra latter “H” stamp present. Of the numbers only the “0” is missing.

Kit also contains the heavy brass block with guides for stamping the canteen cup, knife, spoon, fork, meat can and dog tags. Hammer is also present.

Off to the side of the brass block there is a label showing how the information on the dog tag should be arranged.  [ad] [ph:m]
