Black lacquered Christian cross has a small brass ring at the top to attach to a chain or cord. Cross belonged to William C. Haskell of Co. "I", 12th Maine Volunteer Infantry.
Cross measures 1 3/4" tall by 1 1/8" wide. Excellent condition.
Attached is a typewritten tag with the ID attribution; it has a possible museum accession number as well. William Haskell was a resident of Bangor, Maine. At the age of 18 he enlisted on 11/16/1861 as a Private in Co. "I", 12th Maine Volunteer Infantry. He reenlisted on 1/1/1864 and mustered out on 4/18/1866. He was promoted to Corporal in 1863 and to Sergeant in 1865. He transferred from Co. "I" to Co. "B" in 1865. [sl] [ph:L].
