Testament is of the style often seen during the Civil War period. It is hardcovered in brown cloth with embossed scroll decoration. It was published by the American Bible Society of New York in 1863.
Front cover has come loose and the spine covering is gone. First blank page is partially torn but bears an oval stamp for K. A. BUNNELL, CENTRAL FIELD AGENT OF THE U.S. CHRISTIAN COMMISSION.” The page also bears a period ink inscription that reads “PRESENTED TO WILLIAM ROBERT AUMAND(?) BY HIS FATHER A SOLDIER IN THE ARMY OF THE UNION. MEMPHIS, TENN. JULY 4, 1864.”
The second blank page bears a period pencil inscription of “PRESENTED TO WILLIAM R. AUMAND(?)” In both inscriptions the spelling of the last name is difficult to make out.
Binding is good. Pages are edge worn and dirty. [ad][ph:L]
