An anonymous album, contains numerous laid-in “Gem”-size photos, along with names and signatures, dated 1861-62. Un-numbered pages. In brown blind stamped leather. , 5” x 8, t.e.g.  Worn boards unattached, missing spine.

Includes the laid-in autograph of  one of “Frank Brownell, U.S.A.”  Frank E. Brownell was the soldier who revenged the death of Zouave Colonel Elmer Ellsworth by killing James Jackson on the at the Marshall House in Alexandria, Virginia on April 24, 1861. Ellsworth had taken down the rebel flag flying over the house and while descending been shot by Jackson, who in turn was shot and killed by Brownell, who was to receive received a Medal of Honor with the following inscription: From the Congress to Sergeant. Frank E. Brownell for his gallantry in killing the murderer of Col. Oliver Ellsworth in Alexandria, VA., April 21, 1861.

Contains numerous laid-in “Gem” size photos, along with names and signatures, dating from 1861-62. Un-numbered pages. Among the photos is a faded image of “Col. [Elmer] Ellsworth”, 2.125” x 3.25. All others are  featuring numerous “Rev.” clergymen from Troy, New York, as well as numerous attractive young women, many also from Troy. And in many cases with names and dates.

An interesting civil war photo album for troy, New York-area genealogists an aficionados. Most interesting, however, for its autograph of Ellsworth’s avenger….”Frank Brownell, USA.”  [jp][ph:L]
