This is an exciting piece of specifically identified Civil War history.  This ID disk is in wonderful condition and reads “CHARLES BADGER CO. G 9TH MD. V. ENLISTED JUNE 30TH 1863 BALTIMORE”.  The reverse reads “THE UNION AND THE CONSTITUTION”, “WAR OF 1861” and boasts a beautiful Federal shield.

Charles enlisted as a private in Baltimore for 6 months at age 15.  He was captured in Charlestown, West Virginia on October 18, 1863.  He was held as a POW in Richmond from November 27 until paroled at City Point, VA in March of 1864.  On the 9th, he was returned to Annapolis and reported to the Camp Parole.  He was transferred back to Baltimore on March 15, and mustered out of service on March 20, 1864.  [CM][ph:L]
