Very fine 9th Army Corps badge. In the shape of a shield, the 9th corps insignia of cannon barrel and fouled anchor are finely engraved on the face with their edges outlined in black enamel. Fine textured background and engraved edge around the shield. Engraved on the back, “J.C.W. / Col. / 58 Mass. Vols.” A thick loop at the top connects the shield to a brass cross bar. This could have connected with a watch chain or larger ribbon.
The whole piece is in wonderful condition.
