Benjamin F. Sawtell of Sandwich, NH, died of disease while on active duty on April 14th, 1864 in Carrollton, LA. Enlisting with the 14th New Hampshire on August 15th, 1862 at the age of 29, his record mirrors that of his regiment; please view this link (14th New Hampshire Infantry Regiment in the Civil War).

This fine condition cloth bound New Testament bible that was printed by the American Bible Society in 1863. It measures 4 3/4 inches by 3 1/8 inches. Please click on this link (Civil War Bible -). Written in pencil on the first blank page of the bible is the following: " B. F. Sawtell" over "Co K 14th Regt" over " N. H. Vols".
