Offered is a handsome display presenting an authentic piece of General Robert E. Lee's hair. Strands are mounted in a burgundy suede-finish mat measuring approximately 8 x 10 inches, with a sepia-toned photographic portrait of Lee in Confederate general's uniform at top and a description of provenance at bottom.
The hair descends from the collection of Washington and Lee University — where Lee served as president from 1865 until his death in 1870 — and was presented to Dr. Robert Foster Bradley, head of the Romance languages department. Originally part of a larger lock, each strand was secured to one of Robert E. Lee’s calling cards with a handwritten, period label. A certificate from the most recent owner attests to its firm provenance.
An essential piece of history for the Civil War collector. [cm][ph:L]
We have additional, similar displays available.
