SOLDIER’S NAME STAMP KIT

$395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 725-21

Item comes in a small riker box ready for display. The outer sleeve of the kit has a green label that reads “WELLS & CO’S. RUBBER STEREOTYPE STAMP.” Small print then gives directions for use. Below the lid is the stamp kit itself still in the tray of the original container. It consists of a small gold colored vial that contained either ink or bronze leaf, one stamp with a linear design on its face and another stamp for the name “L. K. HUTCHINSON.” Also in the kit are two ink blocks and a thin piece of paper showing what the Hutchinson name stamp will look like when printed. There is some wear to the edges of the box and some minor seam separations to the tray but otherwise the kit is in good condition.

A label placed inside the display box by a former owner states that the kit once belonged to Lewis K. Hutchinson who was a member of Company F, 1st Battalion Massachusetts Heavy Artillery which spent their service manning the forts of Boston Harbor.

Lewis K Hutchinson was born in 1843 and was a 21 year old blacksmith when he joined Company F on August 10, 1864 as a Private. He was mustered out on June 29, 1865. After the war he lived in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and was a member of the C. C. Phillips Post #14 of the GAR.
