Post-war, waist-up studio view of Tebault in civilian clothes. The image is clear with very good contrast. Period ink identification along lower edge of mount, "C.H. Tebault, M.D.  Apr 1866". Photographer's backmark, William Quay, New Orleans.

Christopher Hamilton Tebault (1838 - 1914), lived in New Orleans LA and enlisted on 3/1/1862 as a Asst Surgeon, 10th S.C. Infantry. He served as a Surgeon in the 10th South Carolina Infantry, 21st Louisiana Infantry, and as an Asst. Surgeon in Johnson's Corps. In July 1863, he was detailed to Quintard Hospital, Cleveland, TN; in April 1864 to Quintard Hospital, Griffin, GA; in October 1864 to Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon, GA.

Surgeon General with the rank of Brigadier General of the United Confederate Veterans, and a member of the staff of Gen. J. B. Gordon. He was Health Officer for the city of New Orleans in 1866 and 1867, and was Professor of Diseases of Children, and Associate Professor of Gynecology at Charity Hospital Medical College. He was also Chairman of the Committee of Health, Quarantine and State Medicines, he framed the new law creating the State Board of Health. He was also a member of the Pensions for Confederate Veterans.

Died at his home in New Orleans, on May 24, 1914. He is buried in Tomb of the Army of Tennessee, Louisiana Division, Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
