The photograph is copyright 1898 by Strohmeyer and Wyman and published by Underwood & Underwood; this stereoview is in excellent condition and the photos are very crisp and clear.
The caption on the reverse dates the card itself to 1900, when Roosevelt was a candidate for the Vice Presidency; it reads as follows:
“Hon. Theodore Roosevelt, famous Colonel of the “Rough Riders” – now, Governor of New York State, and Candidate for Vice President of the United States – stands to the right in this stereograph. Next to him, leaning against the tree, stands Major-General Wood – now Governor-General of Cuba. In front, stands “Joe” Wheeler – the famous ex-Confederate Cavalryman – honored by President McKinley and loved by the whole nation – now Brigadier General in U.S. Regular Army. The other three, commencing at the tree, are Chaplain Brown, Lieut. Col. Brodie, and Major Dunn, all of the “Rough Riders.” [ld][PH:L]
