These two fantastically clear images are housed together in a Union case that is also in excellent condition. Both sides show a beautiful scene of a lady riding a horse with a dog resting in front.
Both subjects are unknown. The first image is of a beardless youth holding what looks to be a Model 1840 NCO sword at the position of “ATTENTION.” He wears a dark forage cap, frock coat and trousers with a sash tied around his waist. The disc of his cap is outlined with light colored piping with a quatrefoil at center that has been touched with gilt paint by the photographer. The frock coat has piping on the collar and cuffs. The hilt of his sword and the buttons and epaulette anchors on his shoulders have been touched with gilt paint. His cheeks are also tinted rose.
The companion image is of a man who is slightly older and displaying some chin whiskers. Other than that, the pose and uniform are exactly the same. He also has a quatrefoil, buttons, shoulder epaulette anchors and sword hilt that have been touched with gilt paint. His cheeks are also tinted rose.
Both images are extremely clear with minor oxidation around the edges. The contrast is outstanding on both images.
Both have the decorative brass mounts and stamped brass frames. Images are housed in a Union case decorated with a mounted woman at center surrounded by woods and attended by a hunting dog. Case has the usual brass hinges and is in excellent condition with only one very tiny chip on one corner.
These images are certainly an eye pleaser and would be a wonderful addition to any collection. [ad][ph:L]
