Dunlap is shown in civilian clothes and is posed in partial right profile. Bottom of the image has a period pencil ID of “W. W. DUNLAP, MAJOR CSA”

Contrast and clarity are good. Paper and mount have light surface dirt. Paper has minor foxing.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for A. A. TURNER…NEW ORLEANS. Top of reverse is inscribed in period pencil “TO MRS MARY BUCKNER, CHRISTMAS 1865.” There is also some collector information in pencil at bottom.

Image is from the collection of the late William A. Turner who noted on the back of the image that Dunlap served on the staffs of Leonidas Polk and Joe Wheeler but no record of that service could be found.   [ad][ph:L]
