Kit comes in a wooden box that meas. 8.25 x 3.50 x 2.00. Box is held closed by swiveling brass hooks. At center of the lid is plain rectangular escutcheon. The exterior of the box shows moderate wear. One lower side panel is replaced while the lid has a closed crack running approx. 4.50 inches.

Upon opening the box, there is a lower compartment lined with red felt which holds 4 surgical scalpels, 2 different sized tenaculum (one without a handle, and 3 small scalpels and one small saw. All have white bone handles but the makers marks are different. Markings include MATTHEWS and SAVIGNY & CO.

Kit is missing two instruments.

The underside of the lid has a red felt lining which can be lifted to expose another compartment holding a SMITH SCARBRO marked scissors, an EVANS marked forceps and an unmarked venesection knife.  [ad] [ph:L]
