Edward Gould & Son was a well-known London homeopathic chemist, and their boxes served both medical practitioners and private households. Beyond their practical function, these cases also embodied the era’s fascination with science, health, and refined craftsmanship.
This box is wood construction with a black textured leather surface. The size is 7 ½” by 2 ½” deep and standing 5 ½” tall. The lid is secured by a brass keyed lock that is missing its outside escutcheon. The red felt interior was partitioned to hold 6 square bottles. A 7/8” by 1 5/8” bottle will fit. The interior lid is marked “EDWARD GOULD & SON/ HOMEOPATHIC CHEMISTS/ 32 MOORCATE STREET/ LONDON. E.C.”. [stp] [ph:L]
