HIGH-GRADE CIVIL WAR OFFICER’S DRESS SWORD KNOT

$375.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-3553

This is the officer’s dress sword knot and is constructed of a woven bullion ribbon folded over upon itself to create a 14” long strap that terminates in a tasseled bullion knot, totaling approximately 19 inches in length. The piece was secured to a sword hilt and then looped around the officer’s wrist like a lanyard.

This piece is fit for a high-ranking officer with its non-regulation construction and its many tassels; it was likely custom made by a high-end manufacturer as this style of sword knot was not readily available for order from widely known military suppliers.

The bullion ribbon strap is half an inch wide and is in nearly perfect condition given its age. It is obvious that the knot has been tied around the hilt of a sword in the past given there is a twist at the upper end of the ribbon. There are other minor creases in the ribbon but these do not detract. There is one spot of dirt which is noticeable at the twist. A single sliding loop is on the strap and measures half an inch. The knot on the bottom is finished with spun fine gold tassels.

This sword knot remains in excellent condition. [cls] [ph:L]
