A “two-draw” telescope measuring 8-1/4” when closed and 18-1/2” when extended. This is a typical brass-body construction with the main tube covered in a thin, textured brown leather with a lengthwise sewn seam. The face of the eyepiece has a thin black paint or enamel with some wear. The small pivoting eye piece closure is missing and there is no lens cap, but the tubes draw fine and the glass is all in place, though the focus seems to us a bit blurry. The surface of the leather is very good, with just some light rubs and a little green verdigris showing at the very end where the leather has shrunk just slightly to expose the edge of the brass tube.
This would display well with an officer’s grouping and is a size to fit a pocket, or perhaps better, an officer’s haversack, saddlebags or saddle valise. [SR][ph:L]
