These wonderfully crude wooden drumsticks appear to be made from Hickory. They were formerly in the Texas Civil War Museum where they were classified as Confederate. The hand carved sticks measure 15 1/2 inches in length and have a diameter of about just over 1/2 inch but they are far from round in cross section; indeed, they are more oval. These sticks are hand carved but capably done. The teardrop "business" ends are 3/4 of an inch long. Both sticks have a slight, but charming, warp. The unmolested patina is wonderful. These would be perfect to display with an early American folk-art drum or a Confederate drum. [pe][ph:L]
