This style of antique hand vise was traditionally used by jewelers, gunsmiths, and machinists to secure small components for filing, drilling, or polishing. Unlike fixed bench vises, most of these are designed to be held in one hand or secured in a larger bench vise while providing a stable grip on delicate workpieces.

This has two forged steel arms connected by a pivot. The jaws were tightened with a large wing-nut. A spring to causes the jaws reopen when the nut is loosened. This vise is slightly different in that it features a spike protruding from the bottom allowing it to be stuck into some other surface, practical for use in the “field”.

Overall condition is good and in working order. The is one small crack on one arm.  [jet][ph:L]
