Wood framed pack covered with waterproof, tarred canvas. Pack measures approx. 15” long x 4” wide x 13.75” high. Of the three blanket straps on the top of the pack, one is complete with remnants remaining of the others. Both of the closing straps are present with respective iron roller buckles at bottom. The shoulder straps are all but complete (the very end of one strap missing), each constructed of three segments. All of the above mention straps are in well-worn condition. It is rare to find one of these packs with any of the straps present. Two iron roller buckles and pieces of broken straps are found inside.
Outer flap is marked in white paint “13 Sep. Co.” Underside of box also stenciled “13” and “31”. One of the two inner flaps has a bit missing (looks like a mouse chew) but are otherwise presentable a couple of the cotton ties present.
The 13rd Separate Company was a part of the post-Civil War New York State militia. [jet][ph:L]
