A Civil War period enlisted pattern saber knot of black-finished leather. The strap is folded into a loop at the top for attachment to the sword guard and runs to a pair of hand-stitched leather keepers, which slide to adjust the wrist loop. Below the keepers is a woven (braided) leather slide secured with a small tack, finishing in a fringed tassel of cut leather strips. Overall length approximately 20 inches.
Condition: The black finish shows heavy crazing and alligatoring, most pronounced at the loop end, with flaking and scattered losses along the edges exposing the brown leather beneath. Both keepers remain intact with their original stitching. The woven slide shows wear but is complete, and the tassel fringe is full with no apparent missing strips. A scarce accoutrement that rarely survives with its tassel and keepers intact. [SS][ph:L]
