This rare plate is made of die-struck brass and has the coat of arms for the state of Virginia on the front. The figure of Virtue dressed like an Amazon stands at center over a fallen tyrant and is surrounded by the state motto “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” within a wreath of oak leaves. The details of the face are crisp and the surface is untouched with a very light patina throughout.
The reverse has an applied brass tongue and belt loop with two brass sliding keepers. There is a thin line of solder running along one edge opposite the tongue.
This pre-war plate is much sought after and does not come up for sale that often. This is a very nice example in untouched excellent condition.
