This Federal cartridge box plate is of the regulation 1839. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US” with an unusual copper tone on the face. Lead filled back retains about 75% of lead fill; all missing from one end. Iron wire loops are fine and in place.

It appears this was in, or very near, a fire. Strange, but that may also explain the copper tone on the brass face. Priced right.    [jet][ph:L]
