Offered is an Atlanta Arsenal style solid cast brass waist belt plate. It is not Civil War, but it is over 100 years old. It is classified as a Bannerman 1st type. Unlike the more common later Bannerman CSA plates, he offered for sale from his famous Hudson River island and his castle there, this early example is almost a perfect facsimile to the Civil War types. And for that reason, it resided in a world class Confederate collection for years, thought to be the real thing. This one looks real particularly on the reverse where the 3 hooks are exactly like those found on the originals, I mean exact! The size is 2 3/4+ inches by 1 3/4 inches. The patina is nice, but the plate was polished at one time. Collectable in its own right. [pe] [ph:L]
