This non-excavated Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US”. Face shows only small dings and has a nice bright patina. Lead filled back retains 100% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with brass “puppy paw” hooks; all three hooks remain.
A fine Civil War waist belt plate showing honest use. [jet][ph:L]
