This canteen looks much like its Civil War predecessor in style and construction. On this there are only two sling swivels and the stopper chain was attached to the spout by a ring. There is no stopper but the brass wire around the tin spout remains.
Canteen is covered in a khaki canvas with a nice bold “U.S.” inked in black on one side. Cover is in very good condition and clean. The body of the canteen has a few dents you can feel through the cover. The cover has no tears and the sewed seams are unbroken.
This is NOT a Civil War canteen that was recovered.
