This excellent smooth sided canteen was manufactured by the New York Depot and comes with the original cotton drill sling, jean cloth cover, and cork stopper.
This style of canteen is among the most commonly issued varieties to US troops and could be found in the possession of millions of Civil War servicemen.
Condition is very good for the age of the item, with the jean cloth cover torn near the spout at the seam and a small hole on one side. The cotton drill sling is in great condition with minimal wear and tied together instead of sewn. The stopper is present and retains the cork, which is cracked from age-related drying. No chain or string are present.
This scarce, complete canteen would make a perfect item for display or the quintessential addition to any Civil War collection. [cm][ph:L]
