This militia style canteen, made of tin, most likely pre-dates the Civil War.  Generally sized-down for the reduced demands of part-time military service, the style was also documented as widely-issued to Confederate forces.

Our offered example measures 5.1” in diameter and 2.5” in width. Light surface rust is noted, concentrated primarily around the soldered seams. Three sling loops remain securely attached, and the spout is retained with a slight break in the soldering on one side. No stopper is present. A hole is noted at the low seam edge of the body measuring less than 0.1” in diameter, as are two pin-sized holes nearby.

A solid Civil War era canteen that has seen use.  Ideal for many types of displays or Civil War collections.  [cm][ph:L]
