Offered is a Philadelphia Depot canteen bearing the manufacturer name "Hadden, Porter & Booth Phila" on the spout. The variegated jean wool cover displays scattered wear but remains mostly sound. Some light oxidation is noted on the halves of the body and along the concentric rings, visible through holes in the cover.  A cork is firmly wedged into the opening of the spout, but is not part of the original stopper assembly. No sling is present.

Hadden, Porter & Booth was a manufacturing firm based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In July 1862, they secured a lucrative government contract to deliver 36,667 canteens to the Union army, fulfilling the order by the end of 1863. Many of these were issued through the Philadelphia Depot to northern regiments, notably New York and Pennsylvania units.
