This style of infantry insignia was issued by the US Government for use on the Pattern 1858 dress or “Hardee” hat. They were also used on forage caps. The insignia was meant for use by an enlisted man.

The horn is made of stamped brass and meas. approx. 3.50 inches wide. The horn body is decorated just below the bell and at center with a leaf pattern.

This one has a light patina but is otherwise clean. The reverse has both of the attachment loops.

This is a good example of a Civil War infantryman’s insignia.
