This insignia features an embroidered wreath with old English letters “ID” or “JD” in the center. The insignia is typical of mid-19th century construction and likely for a local militia.
This piece remains very fine condition. The background of black velvet retains it knap. Gold bullion thread forming the wreath remains tight and perfect with a uniform tarnish. Bright sequins remain in place on the branch on the right half. A thin “coil” of brass forms an edge around the entire oval piece.
Back of patch is covered with original black cotton sewn around the parameter. The rigid form suggests that the piece is constructed upon an oval piece of tin. Four attachment wires have been cut off.
Measures nearly 3.5 wide x 2.5” tall. An unknown insignia from the mid-19th century. [jet] [ph:L]
