The solid cast brass badge measures 3 inches in length by 2 inches in height. It has all 4 attachment loops intact and the ground dug patina is beautiful. It was found over a century ago on the Waterloo battlefield. It was purchased from the famous collector J. Stanley Schwartz a few months before his death in 1984. It was designed to be worn on the cartridge box flap. If worn by Napoleon's Foot Artillery men who carried the Model 1777 Dragoon musket it is probable that the insignia had a separately mounted crown above it and a stack of cannon balls below. Or when it was worn by Mounted Light Artillery it was worn on the cartridge box for pistol or carbine just as you see it. A very rare relic. [pe][ph:L]
