This rare pin is associated with the US Army Corps of Engineers early in the Civil War.
This silver pin consists of the Engineer’s “castle” sitting atop a large circular disk. Within the circle is the Eagle, Fort, and Rising Sun distinctive insignia. A recessed crescent above the eagle retains some yellow paint.
Strange that it is such a fancy badge by is not identified to a soldier. Any man that could afford such a badge surely could afford engraving.
Very fine silver badge, 1.04” wide x 1.45” tall. T-bar pin attached on back (horizontally) with catch. Nice clean badge.
From the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet][ph:L]
