This hat device is a very nice example of a Civil War Infantry officer’s hat insignia. Device features a French horn adorned with tassels.
Constructed of embroidered bullion thread and sequins, this is sewn on a black velvet backing. A small, brass false embroidered “9” is pinned in center loop of horn.
This insignia is in very good condition showing only some light wear. The cloth is sewn in place over an oval piece of tin and with a brown polished cotton backing. Two brass wire loops remain in place on the back with ring clips attached. Measures 3.5” wide x 2.5” tall.
A fine specimen of a Civil War Infantry officer’s hat insignia. [jet][ph:L]
