This silvered badge is in the design of a suspended hunting horn and was pinned by means of 2 lugs to the shako worn by US Infantry officer Regulars 1832 to 1851. It was also worn by militia officers but the fact that this badge is silvered indicates it was US Army.  It measures 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. It is made of stamped brass. It had a silver wash applied which is 95% intact. The lugs or attachment loops are both present and soldered on the reverse. The badge is near mint. This is a hard-to-find badge. [pe][ph:L]
