ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR MUSKET SLING

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1142-92

This is a leather sling for use with Civil War-era rifle muskets. This is a Pattern 1857 musket sling which was originally designed for the US Model 1855 rifle musket, and subsequently saw use with the Model 1861 and Model 1863 rifle muskets.

The sling has a fixed leather loop at one end and a flat brass hook on the other, which was retained by two brass brads and a sewn flap at the end of the sling. The hook engaged one of holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. There is no sliding leather loop remaining. The sling is nearly 47” long overall including the brass hook.

This US Pattern 1857 rifle musket sling is in used and worn condition. There is one very weak spot where there is a tear on one side of a punched adjustment hole. This tear should be restored or repaired in some manner.

After repair, the sling could be installed on a rifle musket to enhance the display of the weapon.  [jet]   [ph:L]
