This is a leather shoulder sling designed for use with Civil War muskets.
The sling has a fixed leather loop at one end and a brass wire hook on the other, which is mounted under a sewn down flap. The hook engaged one of holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. There is also a sliding leather loop remaining. The sling is approximately 47” long overall including the brass hook, and 1.25” wide.
This original musket sling is in used condition. Black leather; unstamped. The “fixed” leather loop on one end is broken. There is cracking and crazing to the surface finish overall. Leather is slightly stiff but could most likely be put onto a musket again. [jet] [ph:L]
