This is a leather shoulder sling designed for use with Civil War muskets.
The sling has a fixed leather loop sewn to one end and a brass hook on the other, which is mounted under a sewn down flap. The hook engaged one of holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. There is also a sliding leather loop remaining. The sling is approximately 47” long overall including the brass hook, and 1.2” wide.
This original musket sling is in excellent, used condition. Black leather; boldly stamped “C.S. STORMS / MAKER / N. YORK CITY”. There are swivel “creases” visible showing where this was mounted on a musket at one time. Leather is pliable and could easily be put onto a musket again. [jet] [ph:L]
