A very nice example of the Civil War cavalry shoulder sling designed for use with carbines fitted with sling rings. The sling was to be worn over the left shoulder with its buckle to the back.
This specimen is constructed of a buff leather belt measuring 2” wide by approximately 54” in overall length with hardware of a steel swivel and snap-hook device used to attach it to the carbine ring. Also present is a rectangular brass buckle and brass sling tip. The buckle is sewn and riveted. The brass “batman wing” tip is missing one of its four rivets.
The sling swivel and hook are in excellent condition. Clearly marked “O.B. NORTH & CO. / NEW HAVEN - CT.”
The condition of the leather is very good and it remains supple. The metallic parts are clean and in good order.
This is a nice Civil War cavalry accessory in nice condition. [jet][ph:L]
