This is the bridle leather shoulder sling to support the infantry cartridge boxes of the Civil War. Black leather is approximately 2” wide and 61” long overall. There are two pairs of small cuts where the eagle breast plate was once mounted. There is no longer an eagle plate attached.

This strap was once attached to a cartridge box as evidenced by the stretch and “pull” seen on the thin ends that were buckled to the bottom of the box.

The strap shows use and is complete. The surface finish shows moderate to heavy crazing overall. Leather remains generally very pliable. No maker or inspector stamps visible.

A good piece for a box in need of a sling.  [jet][ph:L]
