This is a leather shoulder sling designed for use with Civil War muskets.
The sling has a fixed leather loop sewn to one end and a brass hook on the other, which is mounted with brass pins under a sewn down flap. The hook engaged one of holes along the length of the sling, which allowed the length to be adjusted. There is also a sliding leather loop remaining. The sling is approximately 49” long overall including the brass hook, and 1.25” wide.
This original musket sling is in used condition. Black leather with partial maker’s mark at loop end. There are cracks and crazing in the surface finish overall with a weak, heavily creased area at the end with the maker’s stamp and loop. This piece was obviously mounted on a musket at one time. Leather remains pliable and could be put onto a musket again. [jet][ph:L]
