Offered is an original Civil War-era leather shoulder belt set up to hold the sword and bayonet of non-commissioned officers. It comes with a reproduction 1826 Eagle plate.
This adjustable shoulder belt is s 2.15” wide. The leather remains perfectly pliable. The belt has a belt loop sewn to one end and has the reproduction, round eagle plate (with three wire hooks on back), mounted at the opposite end. At mid-belt there are pockets (frogs) for the 1840 non-commissioned officer's sword and a bayonet. Both are cut to accept fasteners from the associated scabbards. There are inspector’s initials “H.K.W.” stamped on each end of the belt.
The condition of the leather is generally good but well used. This appears to be buff leather where the “rough” surface has been polished smooth over time. Some of the original stitching around the pockets has separated and been recently replaced. The M1826 Eagle plate is a very good reproduction.
The set is durable enough to hold both sword and bayonet for any sort of display. [jet][ph:L]
