This is a fine example of the Model 1887 Carbine Boot, retaining its full form with all of the straps that remain unbroken.  The rear stitched seam is intact except for about 2” at the lower end. The boot retains its shape and the brass plate on the upper front edge is not flattened or out of shape.  The surface of the leather shows light wear with some light crazing. The straps are complete and were used. The side of the boot is stamped “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL”.

Designed for the “trapdoor” carbine, this late Indian War boot dates from the final fighting phase against Geronimo’s Apaches and is a fine example that will display very well with your Indian War cavalry collection.  [jet] [ph:L]
