Offered is a Civil War-period leather shovel case (entrenching tool carrier), constructed of heavy brown leather with a squared, flap-style body measuring approximately 9" x 9". The case features neatly stitched edges along the perimeter and two leather belt loops/keepers stitched to the reverse for attachment to the long carry strap. The accompanying leather shoulder strap is roughly 36"+ in length, fitted with an iron roller buckle and adjustable via a punched hole pattern, allowing the case to be slung over the shoulder or attached to a waist belt. The strap shows a period repair/splice near one end. Overall the leather displays a well-worn, dry surface with some surface cracking, flaking, and minor losses consistent with field use and age, but remains structurally sound and displays well.

Good, service-worn condition. Leather is dry with expected surface crazing, flex cracking, and minor edge wear. Stitching is intact throughout. Buckle hardware is complete and functional. No maker or unit markings noted.
