A fine pair of Civil War period leather horse reins, 116" overall length, of heavy stitched russet/black leather with iron buckle hardware. One billet bears a clear impressed rectangular cartouche reading "G.H.W." — almost certainly a Quartermaster or contract inspector's mark applied on acceptance, though this specific inspector has not been identified in published references. Surviving horse equipment with clean, legible inspector cartouches is scarce compared to marked shoulder arms, making this an appealing example for the accoutrements collector.

CONDITION: Good, wear-consistent with age and use. Leather supple with expected surface crazing; stitching intact; buckles functional with light pitting.
