Leather is in supple condition but does show a good bit of surface finish loss. The belt has a central seam on the interior that is good. Exterior has a tooled line along each edge.
Plate is the Pattern 1874 with a bar attachment on the reverse and a wide tongue. Thin brass keeper is sewn to the belt.
The end of the belt with the keeper also has a rectangular flap that, when the belt is fastened, keeps the plate from digging into the wears body. This flap is embossed with a maker’s mark of “J. H. WILSON & CO. MILITARY OUTFITS 928 ARCH STREET, PHILADELPHIA.” This firm was in business at this address from 1886-1903. [jet] [ph:L]
