Standard issue US Civil War enlisted man’s belt with pattern 1839 oval US plate in nice condition.
The leather belt is supple with scattered surface crazing and minor scattered surface finish loss. There is a faint unreadable maker’s mark near one of the size adjustment holes.
The pattern 1839 oval US plate has all its original finish and is free of dings, dents and scratches and shows only a few oxidation spots. Reverse has 100% of the lead fill with both arrow hooks and tongue. Belt has a brass keeper attached to the end opposite the plate.
Attached to the belt is a cap box in good condition. The outer flap and body of the box show only minor surface wear and a few small scuff marks. Interior flap is excellent and marked “H. W. OLIVER PITTSBURGH. PA.” The inside of the box is missing the fleece but does have the nipple pick. Loops on reverse of the box show light wear. Box has surface dirt throughout. [ad] [ph:L]
